What is Bandwidth? and Its Types

Bandwidth is the maximum volume of data that can be transmitted through communication channels in a fixed time period or the data handling capacity of a communication system.
  • Bandwidth is measured in bps (bits per second) or in the higher unit of it such as kbps, mbps, etc.
Bandwidth types are:
    • Narrow Band
    • Wide Band
    • Broad Band
  • Narrow Band: Narrowband is used where data volume is relatively slow or less amount of data is to be transmitted.
  • Wide Band: Medium capacity of data transmission rate.
  • Broad Band: A high speed, high capacity transmission medium that supports wide range of frequency and carry multiple signals at a time. Cable TV networks, Microwave, Satellite etc are examples of broadband.
